Distal paravertebral nerve block is commonly used in the goat as a method of choice for surgical restraint. This study highlights the response to distal paravertebral nerve block using lignocaine HCl in combination with adrenaline in WAD goat Its effects on haematology and physiology were investigated in twelve adult male and female WAD goats that were injected with 6 ml of 2% lignocaine HCl, and 2ml deposited at each intervertebral space to block the spinal nerves of the thirteenth thoracic and first and second lumbar vertebrae. The onset and duration of analgesia was assessed. Haematological parameters were measurred at baseline (TO), thirty minutes into analgesia (T30), immediately the analgesia waned (Ti), and 24 hours post-analgesia. The onset of analgesia was 2 +/- 1 minutes and it lasted for 70 +/- 3minutes. The results of physiological values showed a statistically significant (p<0.05) increase in the heart rate. All other measured physiological parameters were elevated although not significantly. Haematological parameters were not significantly elevated.. A significant cardiac response may be of clinical concern in patients with diagnosed cardiac, renal or hepatic insufficiencies. This study also shows that 6ml of lignocaine HCl was adequate to achieve the desired loss of sensitivity within the time-frame.

Regular physical exercise improves the cardiovascular system function, increases energy metabolism and antioxidant protection, provides greater muscle strength and physical endurance. However, exhaustive physical exercise can cause oxidative stress. During intense physical exercise, erythrocytes become more vulnerable to oxidative damage due to action of active oxygen forms, high concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Physical loading of horses is accompanied by the development of tissue hypoxia, so one needs to study in detail changes of hematopoiesis indices, responsible for providing oxygen to tissues. When monitoring animal health, blood tests will detect a disease in early stages, because blood is a sensitive indicator of metabolic disorders, both of physiological and pathological body conditions. The purpose of present study was to examine changes of some hematopoiesis indicators (RBC, Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH), acid resistance of erythrocytesand population structure in trotting horses due to workloads of 1,600 m trot races (at rest, after race, after 90 min). In total, 20 clinically healthy horses of Orlovska and Russian trotting breeds, aged 2–3 years, were used in the study. The experimental animals included 5 mares, 15 stallions. All horses had active training. The horses were divided into two groups. The first animal group included animals that showed high results (2 min 04 s – 2 min 21 s); the second had trotters that covered the distance with worse time (2 min 28 s – 2 min 41 s). The erythrocyte couint in the leader horses after the loading increased, in the outsider horses it fell. After rest the leader horses’ erythrocytes returned to their original values, in the outsider horses they did not change. The outsider horses’ hemoglobin level after loading was lower than in the leader horses. The leader horses had higher hemoglobin content after rest (by 11.0% as compared with the values before the loading). The outsider horses had lower hemoglobin content. The leader horses hematocrit value increased, in the outsider horses ? decreased. The leader horses’ MCV after the loading was reduced, however after rest it recovered. The outsider horses showed MSV increase during the whole study period. The MCH in the leader horses did not change over the entire research period, in the outsider horses – it increased. The animals that showed better results, had an increasing number of “mature” and “old” erythrocytes due to their elimination from the depot. However, the outsider animals had an increasing number of “young” erythrocytes, resistant to hemolysis, but they were not able to provide tissues with needed oxygen.?.

The 96-h LC50 value of Talstar EC 10 (active substance 100 g l(-1) bifenthrin) was found to be 57.5 mu g l(-1). Examination of haematological and biochemical profiles and histological tissue examination was performed on common carp after 96 h of exposure to Talstar EC 10 (57.5 mu g l(-1)). The experimental group showed significantly higher (P < 0.01) values of plasma glucose, ammonia, aspartate aminotransferase and creatine kinase as well as the relative and absolute monocyte count, compared with the control group. Histological examination revealed teleangioectasiae of secondary gill lamellae and degeneration of hepatocytes. The bifenthrin-based Talstar EC 10 pesticide preparation was classified as a substance strongly toxic for fish.

Blood samples were taken from 21 male red deer every 4 weeks during 18 months. Samples were analyzed for the main hematological parameters. Simultaneously, biometrics measurements were taken, such as antler length, body weight, body condition score, testicular diameter (TD), and thoracic and neck girth. All the blood cell types (erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets) showed seasonal variations, increasing as antler cleaning approached, as did hematocrit and hemoglobin. The final size of antlers was negatively related to leukocyte count, nonlymphoid leukocyte count, red cell distribution width, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean platelet volume, and TD, whereas it was positively related to body condition during antler growth. Huge seasonal variations in some hematological values have been found to be related to changes in antler and biometrics measurements. Sheep and goat husbandry has always played an important role in swiss agriculture, but in recent years these animals are increasingly appreciated as hobby pets. This opens new diagnostic and therapeutic perspectives for veterinary surgeons, notably in the determination of hematological and clinical biochemical parameters. For the current methods used there are no reference range values available for adult sheep and goats kept under swiss conditions. Therefore, the present study was designed to determine haematological and clinical biochemical parameters in 102 goats and 102 sheep from swiss flocks. Significant differences were found between the two species, especially regarding erythrocyte count, mean erythrocyte volume, It hemoglobin content as well as leukocyte count. It is therefore of utmost importance to discriminate between sheep and goats when interpreting laboratory findings.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that platelet activation occurs in patients with aortic stenosis (AS). This study sought to evaluate the changes in hematologic and clinical parameters noted with the improvement in AS following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in patients with severe AS at high risk of surgery. Patients and Methods: The study included 33 patients who underwent TAVI. In addition to biochemical, clinical, and echocardiographic examinations, hematologic blood parameters were recorded before TAVI, at discharge, and at 1 and 4 months. Results: Mean platelet volume (MPV) showed a progressive decrease after TAVI. On echocardiography at 1 month, aortic valve area significantly increased, with significant decreases in peak and mean gradients. Progressive decreases were also noted in N-terminal proB-type natriuretic peptide levels. Conclusion: Our findings show that TAVI improves hemodynamic parameters of the valve with marked clinical and echocardiographic improvement, resulting in decreased platelet activation and MPV in patients with severe AS.

The objective of the present study was to report the occurrence of Trypanoxyuris in owl monkeys, using data from clinical and haematological examinations, as well as clinical chemistry (blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)) of infected and uninfected animals. Twenty animals in apparently good clinical health were studied. The coproparasitological examinations showed eggs compatible with Trypanoxyuris sp. in 50% of animals. The number of red blood cells, haematocrit and haemoglobin levels were significantly higher in the males, compared to the females, irrespective of parasitism. However, comparing segmented neutrophils in infected males and females, a significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed. All blood chemistry values were considered normal for the species pattern, even though significant differences were observed for BUN and ALT in infected males. The infection by Trypanoxyuris sp. did not appear to interfere with the clinical condition of animals.

Pesticides are widely used in the world agriculture, and they may adversely affect non-target organisms, including fish. The present 2000-2019 literature review summarizes hematological and blood biochemical effects of various herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides in fish. The observed changes usually indicate anemia and inflammation, as well as hyperglycemia, hypoproteinemia, increase in cortisol concentration and activities of hepatic aminotransferases that are typical for intoxication and stress. Other changes that are also sometimes observed such as increase in red blood parameters indicate compensatory response. The often-noted symptoms of immunosuppression show an adverse effect of pesticides on immune system and possible immunosuppression. Pathophysiological changes in fish induced by pesticides depend on many factors, such as active compound and its concentration, exposure duration, fish species, environmental conditions, etc. Hematological and blood biochemical parameters appear to be useful biomarkers for evaluation of physiological state of fish exposed to pesticides; however, they are not specific markers of intoxication.
